Yuma East Wetlands: Arizona Game & Fish Parcel Wetland Restoration Project
This project involved restoration work in the Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) Parcel, which is part of the Yuma East Wetlands Complex. The 21-Acre Project Area is within the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area and is an important component of a larger effort to restore critical wildlife habitat along the Lower Colorado River. Project goals included:
- Converting fallow agricultural land into sheet-irrigated cottonwood/willow habitat.
- Restoring flows through degrading marshes of dense cattail and bulrush.
- Revegetating the riparian areas with cottonwood/willows, mesquite and other native species.
The following is a summary of George F. Cathey’s technical contribution to the project (as an employee of Natural Channel Design, Inc.):
- Topographic survey and TIN surface creation
- Design and grading plan for wetland re-contouring (balanced ~25,000 CY of earth)
- Rock auxiliary spillway structures
- Wetland water level control structures
- Technical Specifications
- Unit price table
- Engineer’s opinion of probable cost
- Bid evaluations.
